Abstract  To enhance the academic influence of China academics is one of the indicators to illustrate our country's national power. Only when we have international academic vision, can we have real academic innovation. This is the foundation of becoming an important geographical research country. It is of most importance to import and translate some academic books and textbooks of human geography for the improvement of our academic level and teaching quality of human geography. This paper begins with the shortcomings of our edited textbooks, summarizes the publication situations of translated academic books and textbooks of human geography, and the authors give their opinions about the further development of translated academic books and textbooks and related issues.
As far as the translated books are concerned, it is clear that there is no publication plan of related books, the quality of the translated books are not varied, the publication of textbooks receives very limited concern, and the sub-discipline distribution of the translated books is unbalanced. On the basis of the above analysis, the paper gives us several suggestions. The academic criteria for the promotion and evaluation are of critical importance to the translations of foreign books.
Due to the social flippancy and the hardship of academic translation, and the limited market volume of translated books and textbooks, the translation and publication of foreign academic books and textbooks shoulders heavy responsibilities. When citing the translated academic works or textbooks, it is suggested that you should give the names of the translator(s) in reference or footnote or endnote.
